A New Beginning - The Story of Little Big Candles

The Concept

The initial idea for Little Big Candles began more than a decade ago when I enjoyed creating my own soaps and candles at home. I adored the experience of combining rich oils, waxes and beautiful fragrances to create something truly handmade. Nevertheless the time wasn't right for my own business.

The Seeds

Renewed determination was borne in the aftermath of the Covid 19 pandemic. We have endured incredible hardships over the past several years. From the pain of loss and the isolation of lockdowns, to the journey of rediscovering more simple pleasures and pastimes and finally the upheaval of readjusting to modern society.

Out of this upheaval I found a renewed yearning for peace, simplicity and tranquility. A love of the outdoors and nature elevated itself to being a passion as I carefully tended plants that became the basis for natural skincare. I rediscovered and rekindled my romance with literature, of the simple pleasure of curling up with a good book, a hot drink and reading by delicately scented air in the soft candlelight.

Everyday we're bombarded with marketing promising that we'll be happier if we just purchase a certain product or products. As women we're almost made to feel obliged to participate in ten step skincare routines with the promise of slowing time.

The realistic truth is that nothing slows time and many of us are at our happiest when we strip back the complications and strive for a simpler life.

The Roots

Our roots are firmly entrenched in Scandinavia. Here "hygge" is at the centre of everyday life. It's an oft used term these days but at its core is an appreciation of simplicity. Hygge is a feeling. It's the peace and enjoyment you find from a cozy atmosphere with good company; be that company family, pets or the familiarity of a story.

Our products are created with the rhythm of nature. All botanicals used are homegrown from seed to flower, right here on our Little Big Farm in the heart of the Scandinavian wilds. 

And Yet to Come

Every story needs a beginning (or in corporate terms, a soft launch) and ours begins with candles, wax melts and a small offering of salves and skincare products. The aim is to expand into natural, handmade soaps but I've learned to respect the prologue.
